I observed this One Great Idea during a recent virtual meeting. Keep it handy to use the next time your virtual meeting gets off to a slower start than your schedule has room for. THE IDEA: Five meeting members were on the call at the scheduled start time, and the meeting leader began with a succinct chit-chat question that members began replying to briefly. One member clearly requested a shift of focus by replying with “I have a hard stop in 30 minutes.” Said politely, it was a direct request to shift to the purpose of the meeting—and that is exactly what occurred.
